Visbeck Manor

The first documented mention of Haus Visbeck dates back to 1186 as "Villa Visbeck" in the urbarium of Werden Abbey, where it was listed as a feudal estate. From 1338, the Lords of Visbeck emerged as owners of the property, which by then was already used as a fortified knight's seat on two islands. After the extinction of the Lords of Visbeck lineage in 1540, the estate changed hands multiple times. Most recently, it was owned by the Droste-Vischering family until the 20th century. The Marienkapelle (St. Mary's Chapel), a later addition, was built in the 18th century by the master builder Johann Conrad Schlaun.
