Haus von Hülst Castle

The House of Hülst is a listed secular building at Busshook 9 in Legden in the district of Borken (North Rhine-Westphalia).

The building was constructed in 1677 for the patrician family Menke, who were bailiffs of the Prince-Bishop of Münster. The year of construction is indicated by wall anchors above the ground floor windows. Later, the Busch family, from whom the street Busshook takes its name, owned the house. They also provided bailiffs for the Prince-Bishopric of Münster and the Asbeck Abbey. At the beginning of the 20th century, it served as the official and residential seat of Amtmann von Hülst.

The single-story townhouse was built of brick over the vaulted cellar of a predecessor building. It stands on a sandstone plinth. The cornices and window frames and pediments, as well as the corner quoins, are also made of sandstone. The stepped gable is decorated with volutes and spherical finials and crowned by an attachment with a dovecote.

In the garden stands a two-story outbuilding. The half-timbered house from the second half of the 18th century is filled with bricks. It served as an office for the Amtmann until 1911.
