Haus von Raesfeld

Nienborg dates back to a Münster regional castle founded in 1198 by Bishop Hermann II of Katzenellenbogen. For a time, the castle, which measured 125 x 330 meters with its ring wall and wide moats, was home to thirty castle knights and their families. In 1593, Nienborg was burned down by Deventer mercenaries. Ultimately, this led to the decline and insignificance of Nienborg. The Long House was built in 1554 for Goswin von Raesfeld. Therefore, the Long House is also called Haus von Raesfeld. Above a bricked-up entrance is the alliance coat of arms of the builder couple Goswin von Raesfeld and his wife Jaspara von Wüllen. In 1720, the von Delwig family acquired the house, which died out in 1842. Afterwards, the house passed into the hands of the von Heyden family. The building is made of brick. The back is plastered in grey. In 1882, the von Heyden family sold the house to the municipality of Nienborg, which set up an administrative office, an administrator's residence, school rooms, and teacher's apartments in the building. The administrative office was located in the Long House until 1974. From December 1986, the house was extensively renovated to establish a meeting place for the 1st State Music Academy. In August 1989, the academy was inaugurated and still has its seat there today. Changes to the Long House followed in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.
