In the Walbeck district of the city of Geldern in the Kleve district of North Rhine-Westphalia is Haus Walbeck, a historic castle. The complex, which dates back at least to the 14th century, was once the center of the Walbeck lordship and is now a protected monument.

History+

Haus Walbeck was first documented in 1403. It was closely associated with the nearby Haus Steprath and was owned by the Schenken von Nideggen family. In 1452, the lordship was divided, a separation that continued until the 18th century between the owners of Haus Walbeck and Haus Steprath. After the 16th century, ownership changed hands multiple times, including the von Bylandt and von Gramey families, before the von Bönninghausen family took over in 1653.
