Weile Manor

Haus Weile, today Landhaus Grum, was an aristocratic noble seat in Hattingen on the northern bank of the Ruhr. The main house is a two-story building made of quarry stone with neoclassical stylistic features and a half-hipped roof. It was rebuilt in the 20th century.

Haus Weile was first mentioned in a document in 1298. In the 17th century, the Bröckelmann family owned the Haus Weile estate. Johannes Bröckelmann (* 1634; † 1702) is mentioned as the owner of Haus Weile around 1680. He presumably inherited the impressive house and estate of Weile from his mother. His eldest son Johann Caspar Bröckelmann (* 1665; † 1699) died before his father, and his wife Margaretha Elisabeth Maercker (Märker) inherited the house and lands of the Weile farm after his death. In her second marriage, Maercker was married to Dr. Johann Heinrich Severin (* 1652; † 1721). After her death in 1766, the 95-year-old bequeathed the country estate with all its possessions to her granddaughter Margarethe Dorothea Basse (* 1745; † 1818), who married Julius Philip Heintzmann in 1770. Thus, the country estate came into the possession of the Heintzmann family through marriage.

In the 20th century, the property belonged to Henrichshütte and Ruhrstahl AG respectively. In the 1960s, the company made an outbuilding available to the Angler-Sportverein Henrichshütte e.V. In 1962, the farm was also made available to the Hattingen local group of the DLRG. The lease agreements with both associations were terminated in 1997 when the steelworks closed. Today, the property is used as a gastronomic center. In 2011, it was included in the Route of Industrial Heritage.
