In Hattingen on the northern bank of the Ruhr river is Haus Weile, a historic manor and estate house. Its history dates back to the late 13th century, and today it serves as a gastronomic establishment.

History+

The first documented mention of Haus Weile dates to 1298. In the 17th century, the Bröckelmann family owned the estate. Around 1680, Johannes Bröckelmann was named as the owner, having inherited the estate from his mother. After the death of his son Johann Caspar, who passed away before him, the inheritance went to Johann Caspar's wife, Margaretha Elisabeth Maercker. She later married Dr. Johann Heinrich Severin. Following her death in 1766, her granddaughter Margarethe Dorothea Basse inherited the manor, which came into the possession of the Heintzmann family through her marriage to Julius Philip Heintzmann in 1770.
