Haus Welschenbeck is a former small noble residence in the Möhne Valley, located on Belecke ground, directly on the border with Mülheim (today a district of the city of Warstein).

Welschenbeck is first mentioned in a document in 1222: Archbishop Engelbert I of Cologne transfers various estates to Countess Walburgis of Kessel, including those in "Belskenbike", in "Segenhof", i.e., in Welschenbeck and Sennhöfen. In 1445, the castle was destroyed in the Soest Feud (1444-1449). Only the Burgmannhaus remained. Most recently, the von Nagel-Doornick family owned this building.

Place Name+

The current name 'Welschenbeck' has led the Germanist Hans Kuhn to far-reaching conclusions. He suspects in it an indication of a non-Germanic, non-Celtic, yet Indo-European language of the 'peoples between Germanic and Celtic' in the so-called 'Northwest Block'.
