Werthscherhof Manor

The origins of Werthscherhof are presumed to be in the early Middle Ages, when a defensive structure of the royal court of Friemersheim may have been located here. Around 1200, a castle was built on this site by the Lords of Friemersheim. In 1366, Knight Bovo von Friemersheim pledged the property to Johann von Moers, and in 1392, it passed into the possession of the Lords of Moers. Count Vincenz von Moers had the castle converted into a hunting lodge in 1487. This lodge was destroyed by fire in 1584, with only the octagonal southeast tower surviving. It is believed that Count Adolf von Moers deliberately caused the destruction during the Truchsessian War to prevent its capture by Archbishop Ernst von Bayern.
