Wohnung Castle

Haus Wohnung is a moated castle in Voerde, Wesel district, North Rhine-Westphalia. The name derives from the first known owner, Arnd van der Wonyngen. Over time, "Wonyngen" became "Wohnung". The property is owned by Steag.
The complex was built as a castle at the beginning of the 14th century and was first mentioned in a document in 1327. It consists of a manor house and a mill, surrounded by a park.
The three-story manor house consists of a massive brick central building. Next to it stands one of two towers with an onion-shaped slate dome.
In the 17th century, the castle was converted into a baroque palace and a park was laid out. Remains of the moat can still be seen today.
The water mill was already mentioned in 1478. After various renovations, it is still in operation today.
