In Wetterzeube-Haynsburg, located in the Burgenlandkreis district of Saxony-Anhalt, stands Haynsburg Castle, a fortress at approximately 230 meters above sea level.

History+

The first documented mention of Haynsburg Castle dates back to 1185, when a nobleman named Conradus de Hagensberg was named. By 1238, it was already described as a fortified place. After being sold to Friedrich von Meissen in 1295, the castle came into the possession of the Bishopric of Naumburg-Zeitz in 1305 and was considered its strongest fortress. Its strategic importance lay in protecting the imperial hunting lodge in Kayna and controlling important trade routes and Elster river crossings.
