Althaus Manor (Nordwalde)

It is known that in July 1505, the estate came into the possession of the Lords of Althaus (von Oldenhus) as a fief of the Münster Cathedral Provostry.

From 1727, Haus Althaus was owned by Prysing and von Kaas. The latter family could not keep Haus Althaus for financial reasons, and in 1772, it reverted to its former feudal lord, the Münster Cathedral Provostry.

The former estate, eligible for the regional assembly, hence probably the name "Rittergut Althaus" (Althaus Manor), has been in the possession of the Prince of Bentheim-Steinfurt since 1875, who bought it from Piton's nephew, Constand Beccard.

Originally, Haus Althaus was surrounded by a double moat. Within the moat was a large stone house, which was demolished in the mid-18th century after the current manor house had been built.

Today, Josef Evers and his family manage the estate. Haus Althaus also included, among other things, a cottage that was surrounded by ramparts and a moat. It served as accommodation for plague and other infectious diseases. People approaching the cottage had to be warned with a rattle or clapper not to enter the enclosure. This is also where the name Klapperstadt or Klapperkamp comes from. The cottage was located in the wooded area near Haus Hülsmann.
