Herrenhaus Beck in Löhne, North Rhine-Westphalia, is a manor house whose origins date back to the 12th century. It is the ancestral seat of a European dynasty that gave rise to the Danish royal family.

History+

Haus Beck was first documented in 1151 as a feudal estate of Herford Abbey. After the original Beck family died out, the estate passed to the von Quernheim family. In 1605, Duke Alexander of Holstein-Sonderburg acquired the property. His son August had the main house, which still stands today, built in 1648 and founded the Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Beck line. Notable figures such as Field Marshal Friedrich Ludwig von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Beck (born 1653) and Philipp Ludwig von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Wiesenburg (born 1620) were born here. In 1745, the last resident Duke, Friedrich Wilhelm II, sold the estate to Baroness von Ledebur-Königsbrück.
