Bernstorf Manor

Bernstorf Manor is a listed building in Bernstorf in the district of Nordwestmecklenburg (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern).

The name of the municipality goes back to the von Bernstorff family, who owned the Bernardestorp estate since the 13th century. The last owner of the estate in 1945 was Albrecht Graf von Bernstorff.

The elaborate two-story brick building was constructed from 1879 to 1882 according to plans by Georg Daniel in the Dutch Renaissance style. On the long sides, the rectangular central building was widened by projecting side risalits. The flat central risalit and the side risalits are equipped with high volute gables. The structure was articulated with yellow bricks and sandstone. On the northeast side, a tower rises over an octagonal floor plan, of which only the shaft and the eaves cornice are preserved. The former crowning was removed. The window frames and architectural articulations are made of yellow brick. In the upper part of the right gable, an equestrian statue of Henry the Lion is depicted as a relief.

The building is currently (December 2012) being converted and is to be used as a bio-hospice from November 2013.
