Bilkrath Manor

Bilkrath Manor, a historic country house in the Angermund district of Düsseldorf, has its origins on cleared land. It is situated on the Anger river, just a few hundred meters south of Heltorf Castle.

The first documented mention of Bilkrath dates back to 1332 under the name Pelichrade. Later designations such as Peylcheroyde (1402) and Peillichrade (1407) indicate the property's origin from cleared land, with the name likely deriving from the personal name Billig. By the end of the 14th century, Bilkrath was owned by the Lords of Kalkum; a 1402 document mentions Johann von Caelchem von Peylcheroyde, who was executed by the city of Cologne. As early as 1312, Johann's great-grandfather Hermann von Kalkum, bailiff of Angermund, is said to have resided here. After the Lords of Kalkum, the former moated castle came into the possession of the Quadt family. In 1559, Bilkrath was surveyed and comprised 156 acres of land.
