Bockum Manor (Bockum)

Gut Bockum is a former knight's estate in Meschede, in the immediate vicinity of the RuhrtalRadweg (Ruhr Valley Cycle Path) and the A 46 motorway, in the Bockum district.

The knight's estate was first mentioned in 1398. At that time, it belonged to a family named von Bockum. Through an exchange for the knight's estate Weslarn in the Soest district, the von Wesseler family later became the owner of the estate. A later estate owner adopted the name von Bockum-Dolffs. Further owners included the von Kleinsorgen family, von Papen, and until 1841, the von Schade family.

After Baron Joseph von Schade died without heirs, he bequeathed the estate to his brother's daughter, Theresia von Schade. She married Baron Johann von Devivere, who later became the district administrator of Meschede, on November 25, 1841. Today, Gut Bockum is owned by the Dameris family. Until the end of the 1980s, the estate housed the secondary factory of Sophie Stecker's knitwear factory. After the business closed, parts of the estate were commercially leased, and the south wing was sold to a roofing company. In 2005, the son bought back the south wing. The outbuildings of the estate also house his manufactory for ecologically designed wooden caravans. Parts of the buildings have been restored, the manor house received a new roof, and the Marienkapelle (St. Mary's Chapel) belonging to the estate was extensively restored. The historic altar was elaborately restored in 2006 in cooperation with the monument protection authorities. Today, the altar shines in its original form.
