Bonaparte Manor

The origins of the Bonaparte Manor House date back to the 16th century, evidenced by a corner oriel on the west side and a rubble stone cellar. In 1784, Aloisia Buresch acquired the property, which had previously been part of the Erdödy Free Garden. It changed hands several times before being purchased in 1811 by Louis Bonaparte, the former King of Holland, who settled in Graz as Count Ludwig von Saint Leu. He expanded the garden but left Graz in 1813 for political reasons. In 1814, the property passed to his brother Jérôme Bonaparte, who sold it the same year. After a brief period as a barracks and hospital, Prince Johannes von Liechtenstein acquired the estate in 1821.
