Herrenhaus Borstel, a manor and estate house, is located in Sülfeld-Borstel in the Segeberg district of Schleswig-Holstein. It is one of the few surviving Rococo buildings in the state and today serves as a cultural center.

History+

The origins of the Borstel estate date back a long time, though its exact formation and extent in the Middle Ages are not fully known. In the 16th century, the Borstel estate covered approximately 12,000 hectares and was owned by noble families such as the von Borstel(de), Hummersbutle, and later the von Bockwolde (Buchwaldt). A significant event was the division of the Borstel estate and the associated Jersbek estate in 1588 after inheritance disputes. The manor house, as seen today, was rebuilt after a fire in 1737.
