Grindt Manor (Wardt)

Gut Saathain, a former manor house, is located in the village of Saathain in the municipality of Röderland in the Elbe-Elster district.

Early History and First Mention

The history of Gut Saathain dates back to the the 12th century. The first documented mention of Saathain dates back to 1284, when a "Henricus de Sathim" was mentioned in a document. At that time, the manor was owned by the Lords of Saathain, a noble family who had a significant influence on the region.

The Lords of Saathain and Their Influence

The Lords of Saathain were a powerful family who owned extensive lands and played an important role in the local administration and jurisdiction. They were known for their military prowess and their close ties to the ruling princes. Under their rule, Saathain flourished and became an important economic and cultural center.

Changes of Ownership and Architectural Developments

Over the centuries, Gut Saathain changed hands several times. In the 15th century, it came into the possession of the Lords of Köckritz, who initiated extensive construction measures. They expanded the manor house into a stately Renaissance castle, which was characterized by its impressive architecture and its magnificent interiors. In the 17th century, the manor house was acquired by the Lords of Brandenstein, who further beautified it and added new wings.

The Manor House in Modern Times

In the 19th century, Gut Saathain came into the possession of the Counts of Solms-Sonnenwalde, who owned it until the land reform in 1945. During this time, the manor house was extensively renovated and modernized. After the Second World War, it was used for various purposes, including as a school and a residential building.

The former manor house is now used for agricultural purposes.
