Harpsund Manor

Residence for the Prime Minister of Sweden

Harpsund Manor, a significant estate, is idyllically situated on the lake of the same name in the Swedish province of Södermanland. It is known as the official country residence of the Swedish Prime Minister and serves as a venue for informal meetings of national and international importance.

History+

The first mention of Harpsund dates back to 1380. Some of the buildings still standing today originate from the 17th century. Between 1784 and 1899, the estate was owned by the noble Sparre family. The original two-story main building was demolished in 1914 due to dilapidation and replaced by a new construction in the Karolinska style, designed by Otar Hökerberg. In 1952, Carl-August Wicander bequeathed the estate to the Swedish state. Since then, Harpsund has been used for gatherings of the government with representatives from industry and society. Historic encounters, such as Prime Minister Tage Erlander's rowing trip with Nikita Khrushchev in 1964 or Fredrik Reinfeldt with Angela Merkel in 2008, have taken place here.

Harpsund Manor is located in Mellösa, a district of the municipality of Flen in the Södermanland region, Sweden. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 32 meters above sea level.
