Hasselrath Manor (Stommeln)

Haus Hasselrath, a former manor house, is located in the municipality of Nideggen in the district of Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia. The building, which is now privately owned, is a protected monument and is considered one of the most important historical buildings in the region.

The predecessor of Haus Hasselrath was destroyed in 1818. The current building was constructed in the mid-19th century.

Early History

The first documented mention of a manor house in the Hasselrath area dates back to the 14th century. At that time, the property was owned by the Lords of Hasselrath, a local noble family. Over the centuries, the manor changed hands several times, passing through various noble families.

Destruction and Reconstruction

In 1818, the original manor house was destroyed by a fire. The current building was erected on the foundations of the old one in the mid-19th century. It was designed in the neoclassical style, which was popular at the time, and features a stately facade with symmetrical windows and a prominent entrance.

Haus Hasselrath is a two-story building with a hipped roof. The facade is made of plastered brick and features decorative elements such as cornices and window frames. The interior of the house has been extensively renovated over the years, but some original features, such as the grand staircase and the historic fireplaces, have been preserved.

The Park

The house is surrounded by a spacious park, which was originally laid out in the English landscape style. The park features mature trees, winding paths, and a small pond. It provides a tranquil setting for the historic building and offers visitors a chance to enjoy nature.

Haus Hasselrath is currently privately owned and is not open to the public. However, the exterior of the building and the surrounding park can be viewed from the public road. The house is a popular subject for photographers and history enthusiasts, and its picturesque setting makes it a prominent landmark in the Voreifel region.
