Hesselagergård Manor

To be privately owned

Hesselagergård Manor, on the Danish island of Funen, is the country's oldest Renaissance building.

History+

The origins of Hesselagergård date back to the 13th century, when it was first mentioned as being in the possession of King Valdemar II. In 1419, the estate passed into the hands of the Bild family. The manor house acquired its current appearance between 1538 and 1550 through Johan Friis, who had it rebuilt in the Renaissance style. The Friis family retained the estate until 1682. Hans Christian Andersen visited in June 1850. Since 1904, Hesselagergård has been owned by the Blixen-Finecke family.
