Hoeningen Manor

The origins of the village of Hoeningen are presumed to be in the 6th or 7th century. As early as the 10th century, the name Hoangi appeared in a document. A knight's seat, Hoeninger Haus, existed early on as a moated castle. The von Hoeningen family were the original owners, from which Otto von Hoeningen emerged, who was abbot of Altenberg Abbey from 1276 to 1280. In 1227, the Knights of Hoengen were first mentioned in a document. Their castle functioned as an electoral Cologne 'Offenhaus' from 1387. Until 1794, Hoeningen belonged to the 'Dingstuhl' Rommerskirchen in the electoral Cologne district of Hülchrath.
