Holthausen Manor (Büren)

In the early 1240s, Holthausen Monastery was founded as a family monastery by the noble lords Bertold the Elder and Bertold the Younger of Büren. The convent was first mentioned in a document in 1243. Although an official incorporation into the Cistercian order is not documented, the monastery was regularly visited by the abbot of Bredelar Monastery. It primarily admitted daughters of the Büren ministeriales. In the 18th century, the complex underwent renovations, including the construction of the Baroque monastery church of St. Peter and Paul. Following secularization, the monastery was dissolved on September 16, 1810, and converted into an estate. In 1846, an agricultural outbuilding was constructed.
