Horrich Manor (Brachelen)

The core of the manor house dates back to the 15th century but underwent several reconstructions between the 16th and 18th centuries.

The first documented mention of the Wolfshagen estate dates back to 1321. At that time, the property was owned by the noble family von Platen. The manor house, as it stands today, is a testament to centuries of architectural evolution and the changing fortunes of its inhabitants.

The Grand Hall

The Grand Hall, located on the ground floor, is particularly impressive. Its high ceilings and large windows create a bright and inviting atmosphere. The hall was primarily used for receptions and festive gatherings.

The Library

The library, with its extensive collection of historical books and manuscripts, reflects the intellectual interests of the former owners. The finely carved wooden shelves and the ornate stucco ceiling give the room a dignified character.

The Chapel

A small, private chapel is integrated into the manor house. It served the family for daily prayers and private worship. The altar and the stained-glass windows are particularly noteworthy.

Surrounding the manor house is a sprawling park, originally laid out in the 18th century as a Baroque garden. In the 19th century, it was transformed into an English landscape garden, characterized by winding paths, picturesque views, and exotic trees.

Today, Schloss Wolfshagen is a popular destination for history and architecture enthusiasts. It regularly hosts cultural events, exhibitions, and concerts, bringing the historic walls to life.
