Lundsgaard Manor

The noble estate Lundsgaard (formerly Grünhof and Grumtoft) is located in Grundhof in Nordangeln, Schleswig-Flensburg district, Schleswig-Holstein.

In the 15th century, the knight Erik Nielssen lived here in a moated castle, which offered wide views and protection all the way to the Baltic Sea. However, his liege lord, Duke Adolph I of Schleswig, withdrew the fief from him and handed it over to his squire Jürgen Lund (before 1448). The early castle belonged to the chain of Hermannsburg castles, which were intended to protect against attacks by the Wends from the sea.

In the 16th century, the estate came into the possession of Wolf von der Wisch, who also owned the estates Voldewraa and Roest. From 1540–1578, it belonged to Moritz v. d. Wisch.

After that, the powerful noble family of Rantzau took over the rule. They owned 71 castles and estates. In 1564, it was Andreas Rantzau who demolished the tower castle and built the new manor house. A copper engraving and an oil painting (1586) are still preserved. However, it fell victim to a fire in 1730. Son Hans Rantzau was apparently in financial difficulties in 1600, so a certain Segebrand von Mahrenholz appeared as owner. In 1606, he donated the pulpit to the church in Grundhof.

Now Lundsgaard changed owners almost incessantly. It was not until 1722 that it came back into the hands of the von Wisch family. The estate was divided into 80 parcels and the two outfarms Grüneberg and Voldewraa were separated and sold. At that time, it was 1301 Heitscheffel (about 390 ha).

In 1908, the estate passed to Asmus Petersen, in whose family it still remains today. The estate is again 350 hectares in size. A worldwide seed breeding operation is managed from here.

The two-story manor house (1779, Christian v. d. Wisch) with a modest central risalit has a beautiful entrance hall and a ballroom on the upper floor. A medieval cellar with cross-rib vaults is preserved. In the park, one can still recognize the castle mound and parts of the moat.
