Magdalenenhausen Manor (Wetzlar)

The manor house was built in 1693 by Countess Magdalena von Solms-Braunfels. In 1701, it underwent a renovation, in 1908 it burned out, in 1944 it was hit by a bomb and rebuilt.

The building is a prime example of Baroque architecture, characterized by its symmetrical facade and ornate decorations. The original design included a grand staircase and several richly decorated halls.

The Grand Hall

The Grand Hall, located on the first floor, was historically used for banquets and balls. Its high ceilings and large windows offer a panoramic view of the surrounding park.

Over the centuries, the manor house has been home to several prominent families. Each family left its mark, contributing to the building's rich history and diverse architectural styles.

The von Solms-Braunfels Family

The von Solms-Braunfels family, the original builders, resided in the manor for over two centuries. They were instrumental in shaping the initial design and establishing the estate's reputation.

Following the damages sustained in 1908 and 1944, extensive restoration efforts were undertaken to preserve the building's historical integrity. These efforts focused on restoring the original architectural elements while incorporating modern amenities.

The 1950s Restoration

The most significant restoration project took place in the 1950s, following the Second World War. This project involved a complete reconstruction of the damaged sections, guided by historical blueprints and photographs.
