Markershausen Manor

The history of the building, often referred to as "Buttlar Castle," dates back to the Middle Ages. Although the exact date of its first construction is unknown, historical records suggest that a fortified structure already stood on this site in the 13th century. This early building served as a strategic outpost, guarding important trade routes and river crossings.

Over the centuries, the building underwent numerous transformations. In the 16th century, it was expanded into a Renaissance palace, reflecting the changing architectural tastes and the growing prosperity of its owners. However, the most significant changes occurred in the 17th century.

The manor house was built in 1632 by Georg-Oswald Treusch von Buttlar. In the 18th century, a renovation took place.

Georg-Oswald Treusch von Buttlar, a prominent figure of his time, commissioned the construction of the magnificent Baroque manor house that largely stands today.
