Neuenhofen Manor (Krefeld)

The Lords of Neuenhofen have been documented at this location since the 13th century. Only medieval cellar walls remain today of the original structures, the fortified manor house located on a motte and surrounded by water. The building we see today, the axially symmetrical plastered building with the striking round tower with a tent roof and lantern, was only built around 1825 to 1830, after the silk industrialist and Krefeld mayor Gottschalk Floh had acquired the property and the associated lands to convert them into a country estate. First, he had the orchards within the moats designed as a landscape garden, later an elongated meadow valley lined with trees was created to the east. In 1895, Moritz de Greiff bought the property from the Floh heirs, and in 1927, the city of Krefeld acquired it. Today, Haus Neuenhofen is privately owned. The surrounding park is a public green space.
