The Vorwerk (Outlying Estate)

The history of the Niedersohland manor house dates back to the 17th century. The first documented mention of a Vorwerk on this site comes from the year 1659. A Vorwerk was typically an agricultural estate that belonged to a larger manor or castle and served to supply it.

Division into Two Knightly Estates

Over time, the original Vorwerk was divided into two separate knightly estates, both known as Niedersohland. This division was common in the feudal system and often resulted from inheritances or sales.

Acquisition by the Lords of Arnim

A significant turning point in the history of the manor house occurred in 1893 when it was acquired by the noble family von Arnim. From this point on, the estate was often referred to as "Gut Arnim" (Arnim Estate), reflecting the new ownership.

Art Nouveau Renovation

Around 1900, the baroque manor house underwent a major renovation. During this period, it was redesigned in the then-fashionable Art Nouveau style. This renovation gave the building its distinctive appearance, which it largely retains to this day.

Expropriation and Post-War Damage

The end of World War II brought drastic changes for the family von Arnim. In 1945, they were expropriated as part of the land reform in the Soviet occupation zone. In the same year, the manor house suffered a roof truss fire. A makeshift roof construction was subsequently installed to protect the building from further decay.

Today, the manor house Niedersohland stands empty. Despite its rich history and architectural significance, it awaits a new purpose and restoration.
