Nütschau Manor

Herrenhaus Nütschau, a manor house in Travenbrück-Nütschau, Schleswig-Holstein, is an example of North German Renaissance architecture. Originally conceived as a fortified moated castle, it now serves as a Benedictine monastery and is a place of contemplation and education.

History+

The origins of the complex date back to around 830, when the Nütschauer Schanze, a refuge castle, was built here to secure the Limes Saxoniae. Nütschau was first mentioned in official documents in 1249. In the 16th century, Count Heinrich Rantzau acquired the property.
