Oberfelde Manor (Niederaden)

Romans and Germanic tribes already settled in the area. The Alisio fort from 11 BC, a settlement from the 4th century, bear witness to this. At the site of a Roman bridge over the Seseke, Haus Aden secured the river crossing for the Werden Abbey, to which it was subject to taxes, since the middle of the 12th century. Only a few hundred meters "across the field" later arose the "Velthoff", Haus "Overfelt", a fief of the Recke-Volmarstein family. The separation of properties in the parish of Methler first came to light in a document in 1351, but an Adolphus de Adene still resided at Oberfelde at that time. Through the family of von Bönen, Oberfelde fell by marriage to the von Schwansbell family and thus back into one hand with Haus Aden. The 30 Years' War left Aden in ruins. In 1647, Brandenburg's "Great Elector" as sovereign ordered its demolition. 250 years passed before Clemens von der Recke, the last noble owner, applied for the same for the original manor house of Oberfelde due to dilapidation.

The manor house, built between 1797 and 1818, rebuilt after arson in 1821, also had to be demolished in 1972, additionally damaged by mining subsidence. The moated granary, built as a baroque garden house, remained. This monument was fundamentally restored in 1967. A photo from that time shows the exposed woodwork. Only half of the oak beams could be preserved in their original state. The painter Rolf-Dietrich Ratzmann has used the building ever since. Last year, the Spieker was then completely gutted again by the current owner and converted into a residential house.
