Oppershausen Manor, once a moated castle, now stands as a manor house in the municipality of Oppershausen in the Unstrut-Hainich district.

History+

In 1222, Heinrich von Oprechtshusen was mentioned as an early local nobleman. Later, in 1287, a representative of the Archbishop of Mainz acted in Ophershusen. A moated castle, of which foundation walls and parts of the southern moat are still visible, was built in 1395 by Richard von Sebecke, also known as Seebach, presumably on the foundations of an older structure. The current manor house was erected in 1754 on the castle grounds. The former residential tower had to be demolished in 1973 due to dilapidation.
