Quernheim Manor (Quernheim Abbey)

Herrenhaus Quernheim, a manor and estate house, is located in Stift Quernheim in the district of Herford, North Rhine-Westphalia. Originally built as a residence for the abbesses of a women's convent, it is now a center for nature and the environment.

History+

The building was constructed in 1676 as the abbess's house for the leaders of the Quernheim women's convent. After the convent's dissolution during secularization in 1810, it initially continued as a Prussian state domain. In 1832, Commissioner Conrad Wilhelm Delius from Minden acquired the property. He passed it on to his son-in-law, Major (ret.) Wilhelm Bacmeister, who lived there until 1861 and had the manor house extended by 6.5 meters in 1837.
