Reichwalde Manor

Reichwalde's settlement form as a village square suggests a German settlement foundation during the second phase of German eastward colonization in the 13th century. Rychenwald is first mentioned in a document in 1364, and by 1394 a manor is already verifiable ("Apeczko residem in Richenwalde"), which belonged to the von Metzradt family in 1399.

Ludwig, Imperial Count von Pückler, father of the later Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau and Lord of Muskau from 1798 until his death in 1811, bought the Reichwalde estate at a relatively favorable price in the drought year of 1804. This brought Reichwalde to the Lordship of Muskau for the second time, after Kurt Reinicke von Callenberg had already briefly owned the estate around 1650. In 1804, the church and its tower were repaired at Pückler's expense. Before 1840, the Reichwalde estate, bought as an inheritance for the Prince's sisters, was sold again due to debt.

With 215 hectares, almost a quarter of the manor's area consists of ponds, which are used for intensive carp farming.

During the Second World War, parts of the V1 and V2 rockets were assembled in the manor house of the estate. Through the land reform, the estate was expropriated and redivided in 1945. A kindergarten and school were housed in the manor house, and living quarters were set up.

Since 1971, it has been used as a school country home. In 2003, a wing was demolished, and from 2006 to 2008, extensive renovations were carried out. The manor house still serves as a school country home.
