Riensberg Manor

The origins of the Riensberg estate likely date back to the 12th century, when it was established during the settlement of Hollerland. It was built as a fortified farm, surrounded by a moat, and first documented in 1213 when it was destroyed by the Stedinger but subsequently rebuilt. Over the centuries, the property changed hands multiple times, from the Counts of Holstein to the Bremen Church and influential council families such as the Wolde and Brand. In 1599, the estate passed to the wealthy Schöne family, who added the classical residential wing in 1768. Later, it came into the possession of the von Post family. After the death of the last lady of the manor, Margarethe von Post, in 1913, the property was bequeathed to the State of Bremen. Since 1953, Herrenhaus Riensberg has served as the location for the Focke Museum, after the original museum building was destroyed in World War II.

Herrenhaus Riensberg is situated in Bremen-Schwachhausen, within the city area of Bremen, in the federal state of Bremen, Germany. It is located at an elevation of approx. 13 meters above sea level.

Today, Herrenhaus Riensberg houses the State Museum for Art and Cultural History, which is part of the Focke Museum. Visitors can explore exhibitions on Bremen's residential culture, European glass art, and a children's museum with a toy collection. The building has been a protected monument since 1973.
