Rossewitz Manor

On the site of the current manor house, a castle belonging to the Nortman family stood in the Middle Ages. In 1450, ownership passed to Vicke Vieregge, whose family resided in Rossewitz for centuries. In the mid-17th century, after the castle's destruction in the Thirty Years' War, Joachim Heinrich von Vieregge commissioned the construction of a new manor house. The architect Charles Philippe Dieussart began construction in 1657, which was completed around 1680. Around 1760, the ducal chamber took over the estate. Friedrich Franz I temporarily used the castle and advocated for its preservation. State funds were allocated for the building until 1847. After World War II, it served as refugee accommodation and later stood empty. In 1973, it was a backdrop for a DEFA film, during which provisional conservation work was carried out on the wall paintings. A planned restoration failed in the late 1970s.
