Sachsgrün Manor

The moated castle Sachsgrün, also known as Schloss Sachsgrün, is a former moated castle and later a knight's estate in the district of Sachsgrün (Dorfstraße 1) in the municipality of Triebel/Vogtl. in the Vogtlandkreis in Saxony.

The moated castle was built between 1200 and 1250 and was presumably the ancestral home of the von Sack family, who were mentioned in Sachsgrün in 1283. The first mention as a "fortress" occurred in 1353 and the first designation as a castle in 1397. In 1418, a knight's seat was mentioned in writing, and in 1397, a knight's estate was named.

Further owners of Sachsgrün mentioned are Knight Berthold von Streitberg (1296), Knight Vasmann, the von Zedtwitz family, the von Feilitzsch family (1441), Julius von Seckendorff (1594), Wilhelm von Streitberg (1615). Thereafter, the knight's estate was a male fief of the Saxon Electors, who transferred it to Hofmarschall von Reibold, who owned it until 1716 and then bequeathed it to his daughter, the widow von Fletscher, through whom the property came to her son Heinrich August von Brandenstein, in whose family the estate remained until 1921.

In 1932, Georg Weißig was the owner of the estate, followed by Ernst von Waldenburg, who sold it in 1935 to Sächsische Bauernsiedlung GmbH. The manor house was used as a school from 1938 to 1952 and as a gastronomic establishment from 2005. The outbuildings are predominantly privately used.

The former moated castle on the knight's estate had collapsed in 1854 and was replaced by a manor house between 1858 and 1859, which received its current appearance through renovations in 1936 and 1938.
