Schönböken Manor

Schönböken was founded around 1800 as a manor farm of the Perdoel estate and was elevated to the status of a noble estate in 1806. During this time, Schönböken, along with the villages of Ruhwinkel and Belau, was separated from the Perdoel estate. In 1936, the Wehrmacht acquired the estate. They established a remount office here and, from 1941, converted it into a research and experimental stud farm. After the end of the war until 1951, the farm lands of the Schönböken estate were converted into land for settlement farms.

The manor house was built in 1805 and received its current form during the reconstruction and expansion in 1870. After the end of the war, the manor house was first used by the German Agricultural Machinery School (DEULA) and later as a disaster relief school. Today it serves as an event venue for the Zen Association Germany. The manor house, along with the gatehouse and the estate park, is listed as a cultural monument in the monument list of the state of Schleswig-Holstein.

The Schönböken lime tree avenue leads from the federal highway B430 for a length of over one kilometer, with a stock of almost 250 lime trees, directly towards the gatehouse. The avenue was planted in 1856 and was awarded the "beautiful avenue 2010" by the Schleswig-Holstein Homeland Association in 2010.
