Schwarmstedt Manor

The so-called "Alte Burg" (Old Castle) in Schwarmstedt represents a rare type of Baroque half-timbered house. The building was constructed in 1632 and stands out particularly due to its gable wall extending beyond the stories. It is the only example of this style in the locality and far beyond. In earlier times, the unmarried daughters of the von Bothmer family are said to have lived here. In 1857, the property passed to the Lords von Lenthe. In 1977, the main house with its annex was renovated, so that it can continue to be used as a residential building.
