Sickte Manor

The manor was founded in 1638 by merging several farms. We will not delve into the stories of the families, tenants, and owners since a Dr. Heinrich Schrader, Chancellor of August the Younger, received land and rights in 1636 and used them in such a way that the peasants forced into serfdom attempted an uprising. However, mentioning this is important to understand why many Sickter residents, even until recently, had little regard for the "Herrenhaus" (manor house). The manor house was built around 1710 by the Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel Privy Councillor and later Chancellor Urban Dietrich von Lüdecke, designed by the regional master builder Hermann Korb. After several changes of ownership, it came into the possession of the von Veltheim family. Most recently, it was used as an outwork until it was partially dissolved and sold in 1957. In 1982, a support association was founded to preserve the beautifully proportioned baroque building with its knight's hall. With its characteristic arcade openings, it shows a close connection between sophisticated estate architecture, traditional rural building methods, and newer European stylistic forms. Today, it is the seat of the Samtgemeinde administration.
