Slevogthof Manor

The Slevogthof Neukastel is a 19th-century manor house that emerged from a former Meierhof, which once belonged to the Imperial Castle Neukastel. It is located above the village of Leinsweiler on the Southern Wine Route on the slope of a slightly protruding hill of the Palatinate Forest.

The Maierhof, on whose property the Slevogthof stands today, was destroyed in 1689 during the War of the Palatine Succession by French troops. It was not until 1828 that the farm was rebuilt as an inn on the remaining foundations. Peter Finkler acquired the property, including the castle ruins and surrounding forest, in 1884.

In 1890, Antonie "Nini" Finkler, a daughter of the landowner, met Max Slevogt, who subsequently became artistically active on the Neukastel estate and whom she married in 1898 in St. Martin's Church in Leinsweiler. Since the Finkler family could not keep the house for financial reasons, Slevogt bought the property at auction in 1914. In 1922 and 1923, Max Slevogt had the building ensemble extended to the south, thus creating a library and a music room. Furthermore, he decorated the rooms with his motifs. After Slevogt's death, his daughter inherited the estate.
