Slevogthof Manor

The origins of the Slevogthof trace back to a farmstead that was part of the Imperial Castle Neukastel. This farmstead was destroyed by French troops during the War of the Palatine Succession in 1689. It wasn't until 1828 that an inn was built on the old foundations. In 1884, Peter Finkler acquired the property, which included the castle ruins and surrounding forests. His daughter, Antonie Finkler, met the painter Max Slevogt in 1890, who subsequently became active on the Neukastel estate and married her in 1898. As the Finkler family could not maintain the estate, Slevogt purchased the property at auction in 1914.
