Steinlacke Manor (Kirchlengern)

The Steinlake Estate (also Gut Steinlacke) is an estate in the Kirchlengern district of the municipality of Kirchlengern, Herford district.

The Steinlake Estate is one of the youngest knightly estates in the Herford district and is located on the Else river. Its origin is closely linked to the knightly estate Gut Oberbehme and the no longer existing Gut Niederbehme. These two were once owned by the von Quernheim family and were located slightly south of Steinlake. From 1693, the owner changed several times. In 1736, the owner Baron von der Horst had Gut Niederbehme demolished and Gut Steinlake built about two kilometers north from the demolition material. In 1776, Gut Steinlake was acquired by the von Borries family. When Philipp von Borries became district administrator of the Bünde district, Gut Steinlake became the district administrator's seat. The manor house of the estate is a Baroque building from 1736. The farm buildings were only built in the 19th and 20th centuries. Around 1850, a landscape park was laid out at the estate, which is still largely preserved in its original state today.

Until 1929, Steinlake was an independent estate district in the Kirchlengern office, but was then incorporated into the municipality of Kirchlengern.

The name is pronounced with a long vowel 'a', as the following 'c' in the traditional spelling is a lengthening 'c'.
