Stellshagen Manor

Stellshagen was first documented in 1230. The name “Stellershagen” suggests the clearing of the Klütz Forest and settlement by “Steller” in the 13th century. By the 15th century, the village was integrated into the manorial system of neighboring noble families, requiring farmers to perform services. From the 16th century, the von Plessen family from Damshagen gradually acquired almost all the farmsteads. In 1817, Hans Bernhard von Plessen united the Stellshagen and Damshagen estates, but sold Stellshagen two years later. Several changes of ownership followed until it was foreclosed and acquired by Count Ludwig von Bothmer in 1886. In 1924, the Hamburg architect Franz Bach senior purchased the estate and had the current manor house built.
