Vanselow Manor

The lands of Vanselow were already owned by the von Maltzahn family, whose ancestral seat was at the nearby Osten Castle, in the 13th century. Only between 1654 and 1731 did ownership temporarily pass to other noble families such as the von Mardefelt, von Winterfeldt, and von Bohlen. The current manor house was built in the second half of the 19th century under Hans Ludwig von Maltzahn. Construction began in 1869 but was interrupted by the Franco-Prussian War and could only be occupied in October 1872. After World War II, the estate was plundered and expropriated. Initially, it served as accommodation for refugees, and later, during the GDR era, apartments were established there. In 1990, Mortimer Freiherr von Maltzahn, an heir of the original owners, reacquired the manor house and its park. After renovations, which began in 1991, the building was used as a hotel, which, however, closed again in 2000.
