Mußbach Manor

The origins of Herrenhof Mußbach date back to the 7th century, establishing it as the oldest continuously operated winery in the Palatinate. Originally a monastic farm of the Benedictine Abbey of Weißenburg, the property fell to Salian and Staufer rulers at the end of the 10th century. In 1290, Werner, Schenk von Ramberg, transferred the estate to the Order of St. John. Despite the destruction of the Heimbach commandery in the Peasants' War of 1525, the Mußbach sub-commandery remained intact and flourished under the now renamed Order of Malta. In the 17th century, the Herrenhof suffered damage during the Thirty Years' War and the Palatine War of Succession.
