Duke Castle
In the northeast corner of the old town of Sankt Veit an der Glan in Carinthia, Austria, rises the Herzogsburg. Its horseshoe shape is closely linked to the city wall.
History+
The origins of the Herzogsburg date back to the 13th century, with the east wing and the corner tower forming the oldest core. Between 1523 and 1529, the complex underwent expansion and subsequently served as a princely armory. From 1619, the castle passed into private ownership. It is believed that the Herzogsburg was not the original Romanesque residence of the Carinthian dukes, as the city at that time encompassed a smaller area.
