Herzogshof Castle
In Krems an der Donau, the Herzogshof, a castle complex, emerged during the city's expansion in the 13th century. As one of three princely castles, it shaped the cityscape and now serves as a privately used building.
History+
The construction of the Herzogshof, also known as Schlüsselhof, took place in the first half of the 13th century. It was the third princely castle built as part of the urban expansion at that time. In 1376, ownership transferred to Lilienfeld Abbey, and in 1436, the complex, including a chapel, was handed over to the Bürgerspital. Later, the Herzogshof served as an orphanage before being used as an apartment building from 1799 onwards.
