Hinteres Schloss Henfstädt

The origin of the castle lies in an old knight's estate, which was mentioned in the 12th century as the Zufrass'sches Rittergut. In 1580, Count Georg Ernst zu Henneberg gave the estate to Caspar von Hanstein as a fief. In 1596, he built the current castle on the medieval foundations. The last von Hanstein residing in Henfstädt died in 1935. After this, ownership changed to the von Harbou family. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. The entire interior of the castle was plundered.

After World War II, the castle served as a refugee shelter, boarding school, chicken coop, and technical station for the LPG. After centuries of largely undamaged existence, the castle became a ruin within a few decades. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the castle came into the possession of the Ramb family in 1990, who lovingly renovated it.
