In Königswinter, the Hirschburg is a historicist manor and estate house situated on the western slope of the Hirschberg in the Rhein-Sieg district. Built in 1883/84, the building is characterized by its castle-like appearance and Neo-Gothic stylistic elements, which it adopted from the nearby Drachenburg Castle.

History+

The Hirschburg was constructed on behalf of Jacob Anton Biesenbach, who had previously realized Drachenburg Castle for Baron von Sarter. Architects Gerhard Franz Langenberg and Wilhelm Hoffmann were involved in the design. After Biesenbach's death in 1899, the estate passed to the Cologne family von Malinckrodt, before becoming the property of wagon manufacturer Paul Charlier in 1910. In 1933, Mannesmannröhren-Werke acquired the Hirschburg. Initially planned as a mother and child home, it served as an administration building from 1943 and as a recreation home for employees from 1950.
