Habitzheim Manor

The origins of Habitzheim moated castle are presumed to be no later than the 13th century, concurrently with Veste Otzberg. It was first documented in 1323 as a Fulda fief of the Bickenbach family. The castle changed hands multiple times, including the Counts of Erbach and later the Counts of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort. The complex was rebuilt and expanded several times, transforming its character from a fortified castle to a manor. In the 19th century, it was converted into its current estate, losing its function as an administrative seat and subsequently being used for agriculture.

Hofgut Habitzheim is located at an elevation of approximately 156 m above sea level in the Habitzheim district of the municipality of Otzberg, in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district of Hesse, Germany.
