Lenting Castle

In Lenting, first mentioned in 1240, the Counts of Hirschberg, in addition to the Wittelsbachs, also owned estates, which after their extinction in 1305 fell to the Bavarian dukes and partly also to the Diocese of Eichstätt. In 1378, the Dukes of Upper and Lower Bavaria enfeoffed the Ellenbrunner family with property in Lenting. At the same time and in the following period, the Erlach, the Tanner (around 1450) and the Grumbach (from 1498) were landowners in Lenting. Among the Grumbach, Argula von Grumbach became particularly well-known; she had joined the Reformation, corresponded with Martin Luther, and in 1523 demanded a public debate with the professors of the University of Ingolstadt. However, they had a student reply to her, telling her to "knit caps and weave braids instead of bothering with theology."

From the Grumbach coat of arms, the three-flowered rose was adopted into the coat of arms of the municipality of Lenting. From after 1560 to 1605, Dr. Wiguläus Hundt was in possession of the Hofmark. From about 1620, the Barons von Lichtenau owned the estate complex, and they erected a new castle in 1677. After the extinction of the Lichtenau family, Lenting passed to the Count von Lodron in 1730 and to Felix Josef von Müller in 1740, who had the Hofmark castle, devastated in the War of the Austrian Succession, repaired in 1746. Lenting then came to Baron Josef Heinrich von Pechmann and finally in 1768 to the Nobles von Stubenrauch. In 1840, the patrimonial jurisdiction was dissolved, and since 1857, the Zirngibl family, related by marriage to Seitz, related by marriage to Hammer, has been in possession of the castle.
